Collection: Coastal Abstracts

The subject matter of these works comes from Shaune's recent meditations in all things rock related, from coastal rockeries, shoreline sweeps, or even a handful of semi-precious stones. This ongoing series arose from the simple enjoyment and skin-tingling pleasure of lying on a sun-baked rock as the coolness of night unfolds, of the great anticipation of tentatively stepping over sharp-edged rocks in the hope of discovering tidal treasures.

Her process is one of considerable layering. Details being revealed and then replaced by calm, strong colour by muted tones, lines and marks by softer glazes. It’s a continuous push and pull, and a lingering of happiness. The intense flourish of a mark off-set against Shaune's gentler paint brush marks help to depict the natural hum between objects.
